DPRK delegation to visit Seoul for joint celebrations

    SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A high-ranking Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) official will lead a delegation to Seoul to attend the joint celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Korean Peninsula's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, South Korean officials said Friday.

    Kim Hong-je, a spokesman of the South Korean Unification Ministry, announced that South Korea had received the list of a 17-member DPRK government delegation which will visit Seoul next week.

    Kim said Kim Ki Nam, a Central Committee member of the DPRK Worker's Party, leads the DPRK government delegation, which comprises Choi Sung Chul, vice-chairman of Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, and Lim Dong Ok, vice-chairman of the Committee for thePeaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.

    The DPRK government delegation will arrived in Seoul on Sunday.

    Meanwhile, some 170 DPRK civilian delegates will also fly to Seoul on Sunday to attend celebration events until next Tuesday.

    South Korean's 22-member government delegation will be led by Unification Minister Chung Dong-young who also serves as chairman of the National Security Council.

    Anniversary programs include a unification march, men's and women's football games and a variety of cultural events, accordingto events schedules. Enditem
