Carlos Eduardo, officer of the Joint Staff of the Defense Ministry, saw the contingent off at the Ilopango military air base near the capital San Slavador, according to reports reaching here.

El Salvador will gradually pull out its troops from Iraq as the police and armed forces of Iraq are able to take control of the security situation, said Antonio Saca, president of El Salvador onThursday.

In August 2003, the coalition forces of El Salvador, Spain, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic began sending contingents to Iraq to provide humanitarian and reconstruction support. El Salvador is now the only Latin American country with troops still in Iraq. Enditem
