Bush: Withdrawing from Iraq "would be a mistake"

    WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush said on Thursday that it would be a mistake to withdraw US forces out of Iraq just because of the casualties there.

    To withdraw US forces from Iraq "would be a mistake for the security of this country and the ability to lay the foundations for peace in the long run," Bush said in remarks at his hometown Crawford, Texas.

    A withdrawal from Iraq "would send a terrible signal to the enemy," Bush said.

    Recent polls conducted in the United States showed that a majority of Americans disapprove the way Bush was handling the situation in Iraq. Enditem
