IAEA to hold meeting on Iran
www.chinaview.cn 2005-08-09 15:24:02

BEIJING, Aug. 9 -- The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to review its standoff with Iran.

Iran resumed uranium conversion activities at a nuclear facility in Isfahan on Monday. Germany and France have warned that the IAEA is likely to refer the matter to the U.N. Security Council, which may impose sanctions.

In Tehran, Iran's Supreme National Security Council spokesman Ali Agha Mohammadi says the IAEA meeting should be aimed at removing the Europeans' concerns over Iran's nuclear activities and suggesting solutions to the problem.

"The result of the IAEA meeting will let Iran know what policy it should take regarding nuclear issues, that's why this session is important for us. On the other hand there are different points of view in Iran regarding the nuclear issue, one of which says that we have to continue negotiations with thr Europeans." Mohammadi said.

Mohammadi warned Washington that "if negotiations between Iran and Europe come to a dead-end, it will never lead to negotiations between Iran and America."
