CANBERRA, August 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Australian Libby Lenton set Monday a new world short-course record in the semifinal of the women's 100 meters freestyle at the Australian short-course championships in Melbourne.

Lenton clocked 51.91 seconds, beating the 52.17 old mark set by Sweden's Therese Alshammar in Athens in March 2000.

It continued a great run for Lenton, who won the 50m freestyle event at last month's world long-course championships in Montreal as well as gold in the 100m medley relay. Enditem
