OTTAWA, Aug. 8( Xinhuanet) -- Initial probe has ruled out mechanical failure as the cause of the Aug. 2 Air France crash in Toronto, Real Levasseur, lead investigator from Canada's Transportation Safety Board, said Monday.

    "As the aircraft wheels touch down, we see the brakes applied right away, we see the spoilers come up to slow down the plane, we see reverse thrusters fully deployed," Levasseur told a news briefing as he released more data from the Airbus 340 jet's flight recorders.

    "It seems that there was nothing wrong with that aircraft," he said.

    For further investigation, weather experts will look in detail at the severe thunderstorm system that was enveloping Pearson International Airport at the time of the accident.

    Meanwhile, researchers will look at the slope and shape of runway 24L.

    They will be asked to judge whether those factors hindered the crew's efforts to slow down the plane and avoid the 200-meter overrun that led it to burst into flames in a ravine near the end of the runway, Levasseur said. Enditem
