Matsa affects transportation in Shanghai

    SHANGHAI, Aug. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Matsa, the number nine typhoon of this year, has seriously affected the water, land and air transportation in Shanghai.

    The municipal government source said China Eastern, Air China, China Southern and Shanghai Airlines cancelled all their flights in the Pudong and Hongqiao airports due to the heavy rainstorms and strong winds.

    As of 8:00 p.m. Saturday, the majority of the air companies did not resume their flights.

    The daily flights of Shanghai's two airports are more than 1,000 in July, but the number shrunk to ten on Saturday.

    Meanwhile, the coach bus stations cancelled the runs of more than 50 routes and all the water transportation are suspended.

    Matsa landed at Ganjiang Township in Yuhuan County, east China's Zhejiang Province at 3:40 a.m. Saturday and is moving northwestward at a speed of ten kilometers.

    The municipal central meteorological observatory of Shanghai said the typhoon will not grow weakened until Sunday morning and already sent out a black warning signal Saturday. Enditem
