Britain should expect more terror attacks: Muslim leader

LONDON, Aug. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Britain should expect a third or even fourth wave of terror attacks, one of the country's most influential Muslim leaders has warned.

The Metro, one of the most influential daily in London, on Wednesday quoted Abdul Haqq Baker, Chairman of the Brixton Mosque in south London, as saying that the threat is far greater than that faced by the US after the terror on September 11, 2001.

The report said Baker had laid the blame of the security crisisin Britain squarely on British Prime Minister Tony Blair for his support of the American-led invasion of Iraq.

"The bombers did what they thought needed to be done. They wanted to show their objection to what is happening in the Muslim world at the hands of the West," Baker said.

"(US President George W.) Bush and Blair have fuelled future extremist attackers and now their war on terror has backfired. What happened last month is the proof of it," Baker said, referring to the explosions in London on July 21, in which 56 people were killed and more than 700 injured.

The 39-year-old also said that Jihad, the holy war, can be justified in some cases.

"It is obligatory for every Muslim, There are many different levels and it is only permissible when it comes to defending Allahand Islam," the Muslim leader said.

"If a Muslim country is attacked then individuals in that country will want to defend themselves," he said.

Brixton mosque is considered to be one of the city's most extremist mosque. Reports said Zacharias Moussaoui, one of the 9/11 hijackers, was worshipped there.

Latest reports said that Muktar Said Ibrahim, one of the suspects of the July 21 attackers, may have also attended the mosque.

But Baker said his mosque was moderate and orthodox. Enditem
