OTTAWA, Aug. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- An Air France Airbus A340 passenger jet skidded off a runway and burst into flames at Toronto's Pearson airport on Tuesday, local media reported.

There was no immediate official word on casualties or the number of passengers and crew involved.

Black smoke billowed from the wreckage as the aircraft burned, and a row of emergency vehicles lined up behind the wreckage, TV footage showed.

Police said the plane was trying to land when it ran into trouble. Enditem
