ROME, Aug. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The London bomber arrested in Rome last Friday appears to have no ties to any international terrorist organizations, Italian anti-terrorist authorities said Monday.
Carlo De Stefano, head of the police's anti-terrorism department, said that Hamdi Adus Issac's contacts in Italy seemed to be little more than a loose group of relatives and friends, according to Italian News Agency ANSA.
"His behaviour, as documented by investigations in Italy, makes it seem probable that he belongs to an informal group rather than a structured organization," De Stefano said.
He added that none of the people in Italy who had helped Hamdi during his flight to Rome, or been contacted by him, featured in existing anti-terrorism investigations.
The Ethiopian-born Hamdi, 27, was questioned by a Rome judge early Monday. Britain has filed an extradition request for him.
In the next few days, judges are expected to set a date for the hearing to decide on the extradition request.
Hamdi Issac has reportedly told magistrates that the July 21 attacks were staged in protest against the alleged repression of the Muslim community in Britain in the wake of the fatal July 7bombing in London.
The alleged terrorist was arrested on Friday at the home of his brother, Ramzi, who runs an Ethiopian clothing shop in the capital.
Ramzi, also held in Rome's Regina Coeli prison, was scheduled to be questioned over the charges of holding false documents later Monday. Enditem
