TOKYO, Aug. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Yoji Nagaoka, a House of Representatives member of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, was found hanged at his home in Tokyo Monday in a suspected suicide attempt and died later in a hospital.
According to Japan's National Police Agency, the 54-year-old lawmaker had no wounds and left no suicide note.
Nagaoka, a lawmaker from Ibaraki Prefecture serving his second term, was among lawmakers criticized by a magazine for changing their position on postal privatization bills -- Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's priority policy initiative.
According to Kyodo News, Nagaoka opposed the bills in a meetingof the ruling party's decision-making General Council but voted for them in the lower-house vote on July 5.
After learning the incident, Koizumi said, "I was so surprised.For what reason, I do not know but I am sorry."
Nagaoka's wife called the police at around 10:15 a.m. (0115 GMT)on Monday, telling them that her husband "hanged himself at home."Enditem
