SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, Aug. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The Arab League (AL)Secretary General Amr Moussa said here Monday that he is confident on Sudan's peace process after the country's First Vice President John Garang died in a plane accident.

"I believe the accident will not impact the peace process in Sudan because the course will benefit all people in the country,"Moussa told a press conference at Sheraton Hotel.

The AL chief said Sudan's peace process does not depend on asingle person but on the interests of all Sudanese people, adding he mourned over Garang's death and extended his condolences to the Sudanese people.

Moussa stressed that the AL will continue to support the Sudan's peace process in political and economic domains.

He said Sudan's Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail called him Sunday night and Monday morning and briefed him the death of Garang.

"We talked about the accident and exchanged ideas on the effects of the accident on Sudan's future," Moussa said.

Garang, leader of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM),died Saturday evening in a helicopter crash on his way back to Sudan after talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

SPLM had fought a 21-year civil war against the Sudanese government until a comprehensive peace deal was reached in the Kenyan capital Nairobi in January.

Garang was sworn in as first vice president on July 9.  Enditem
