Five US soldiers killed in Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, July 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Five US soldiers were killed in separate bomb attacks in Baghdad, the US military said on Sunday.

    One US soldier was killed and two others wounded on Saturday ataround 1:40 p.m. (0940 GMT), when a roadside bomb hit their patrol in Baghdad's southern district of Doura, the military said in a statement.

    In a separate attack, four US soldiers, assigned to Task Force Baghdad, were killed in southwestern Baghdad in a roadside bomb blast on Saturday night at about 11:00 p.m. (1900 GMT), the statement said.

    The names of the killed were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

    About 1,790 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to media tally. Enditem
