KABUL, July 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Two US service members and an Afghan interpreter were wounded early Saturday in a bomb explosion in southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, US military said.
"They were wounded early today when their patrol was struck by an improvised explosive device north of Deh Rahwod in Uruzgan province," US military said in a statement.
"The unit was conducting a security patrol and was not in contact with enemy forces. The injured were transported to the US base at Kandahar Airfield for treatment, and none of the injuries were serious," it added.
Uruzgan, the home province of Taliban's chief Mullah Mohammad Omar, was the scene of heavy gun battles early in the week, during which up to 50 insurgents were killed, according to an Afghan official.
About 40 to 50 Taliban militants were killed Monday during an operation carried out by Afghan and Coalition forces in the same province.
Three suspected Talibans were killed and 15 others were made captives as US and Afghan troops came in contact with the militants in Uruzgan Thursday.
Remnants of Taliban, whose regime was ousted in late 2001, havevowed to continue Jihad or holy till the withdrawal of US-led foreign troops from the post-Taliban central Asian state. Enditem |
