BAGHDAD, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- One US soldier was killed and five others wounded in a roadside bomb blast north of Baghdad, the US military said in a statement Thursday.

"One Task Force Liberty soldier was killed and five were wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated near a combat patrol at about 11:00 a.m. July 27 in Salah Ad Din Province," according to the statement.

The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a Coalition Forces medical treatment facility. The name of the dead soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement added.

Over 1,780 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to media tally. Enditem
