WASHINGTON, July 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Over 300 Boy Scouts fell ill from heat on Wednesday
while waiting for US President George W. Bush to attend a memorial service
for four adult Scout leaders who were electrocuted Monday while pitching
a dining tent under a power line.
Bush's appearance at the Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill south of
Washington D.C. was later rescheduled to Thursday because of severe weather
conditions. But before the president's visit was called off, many Scouts fell
ill from unbearable heat of mid-30s Celsius amid high humidity, local media
reported.
According to a Jamboree spokesman, about half of those were treated at the
base hospital while dozens more were sent to hospitals in the surrounding areas.
No Scouts seem to be in serious conditions at the moment, officials said.
