GAZA, July 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei said on Wednesday that
the Israeli army should withdraw from the Philadelphi route on the borders
between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt.
Qurei told reporters during his tour of northern Gaza Strip to inspect security forces
training bases that the Israeli army should also leave Rafah crossing,
which will be under Egyptian-Palestinian control.
He said 5,000 security forces will work to maintain security in the Gaza
Strip after an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
"Free access to passages and crossings as well as the airport and the
seaport should be like the lung that we can breathe through," Qurei said.
He said that Israel will soon sign an agreement with Egypt to deploy 750
Egyptian soldiers on the borderline area between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
Earlier, an Israeli army spokesman revealed that Israeli Defense Ministry
advisor Amos Gilad will head to Egypt next week to finalize the deal over the
control of the Philadelphi route.
The route, a borderline area that splits the Gaza Strip, has been
controlled by the Israeli army since Egypt and Israel signed Camp David Accord
in 1978.
On Philadelphi route, there is Rafah Crossing, where Palestinians use the crossing to travel outside the territories. Enditem
