BEIJING, July 28 -- The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) has passed the first and second hearing of the amended basic law, or what is called the Palestinian constitution.
Parliamentary sources said that 60 PLC members voted in favor of the first amended hearing of the law and passed it, and 57 PLC members voted in favor of the second amended hearing of the law and passed it.
The PLC held a session in both Ramallah and Gaza at the same time through the video conference system.
PLC Speaker Rawhi Fattouh said the approval of the basic law prepared everything for setting up a date for holding the coming legislative elections.
The amended basic law says that legislative elections for the parliament, or the PLC, should be held every four years and the elections should be free and direct.Enditem
