NAIROBI, July 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Scotland Yard has announced that two of the suspected
bombers in last week's attack on London transport network traveled to Britain
on Kenyan passports and British anti-terror officers might fly to Nairobi
this week as the search widens, a local leading newspaper reported
Wednesday.
The two suspects, originally from Somalia, lived in Kenya and acquired
Kenyan passports before traveling to London to seek political asylum, London
police sources were quoted as saying by the Daily Nation newspaper.
The two were now on the run and might have fled to Holland, where there is
a big Somali community, the sources said.
The east African community leaders in London had been asked to help police in
the hunt of the suspects, and anti-terror police in London say they believe
there is an active al-Qaeda cell in Kenya and want to question people believed
to be connected with it, according to the report.
Kenyan government spokesman Alfred Mutua said the British government had not
officially informed Kenya of the possible link, adding that Kenya
collaborated with the British security agencies and would be willing to help in
the investigations.
However, Kenya would not allow the British agencies to
interrogate Kenyans. Instead, Kenyans would conduct the interrogations and relay
the results to their British counterparts, said the spokesman.
