BEIJING, July 25 -- Members of former Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's bloc threatened to walk out Sunday from the Iraqi constitutional drafting committee, in support of a Sunni group that has boycotted the process.
Committee member Adnan al-Janabi, who is part of secular leader Allawi's eight member group, criticized the way the commission dealt with Sunni members' demands.
He said that he, along with seven other representatives, would leave the committee if the committee doesn't study the Sunni's demands and suspension of membership seriously.
On Thursday, 12 Sunni members of the commission suspended their participation to protest the assassination of two Sunni members by unknown gunmen.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari said Sunday that Iraq will finish the constitution and hold elections at the end of the year, even if the Sunni minority continues to boycott the process.Enditem
