URGENT: Thailand issues tsunami warning after strong quake in Indian Ocean

    BANGKOK, July 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand issued a tsunami alert onSunday night after a major earthquake in the Indian Ocean.

    The official warning by the authorities came just before midnight on national television and broadcast on all channels.

ĦĦĦĦThe authorities also ordered thousands of people living along the Andaman Sea coastline to evacuate after the strong earthquake struck off India's eastern coast.

    The quake of magnitude 7.2 hit India's southern Nicobar IslandsSunday night, but there were no immediate reports of any casualties, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. Enditem
