BANGKOK, July 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Thailand issued a tsunami alert onSunday night after a major earthquake in the Indian Ocean.

    The official warning by the authorities came just before midnight on national television and broadcast on all channels.

¡¡¡¡The authorities also ordered thousands of people living along the Andaman Sea coastline to evacuate after the strong earthquake struck off India's eastern coast.
