BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Wang Jing, a high-school graduate in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, had a double-fold eyelid operation "to make herself contented and look more attractive" when she enters college in autumn this year.
China Youth, a leading newspaper for the young, quoted doctors with the Third People's Hospital of Zhengzhou as saying that students undergo cosmetic surgery four times as much during the winter and summer vacations.
"My boyfriend said my nose is not so beautiful, and I am doing something about it during the vacation," Zhang, a 17-year-old girlwas cited as saying.
According to Chen Hang, a surgeon with the hospital, many girlscome to him with photos of film stars and ask him to make their faces look like those of Zhang Ziyi and Cecilia Cheung, two good-looking actresses from China's mainland and Hong Kong, respectively.
Most of the people who have cosmetic operations are students who have freshly graduated from colleges ad universities.
"To get a better job, they have to "tolerate the pain" from thesurgical knife, the paper said
Chen, a senior college female student in Zhengzhou, spent nearly 20,000 yuan (about 2,460 US dollars) on the operation to make her face an oval one.
When asked why she was to determined to do the surgery, Chen said, "It's very hard for college graduates to find a job and it is even more difficult for female students." So, she came to the conclusion that the more beautiful a girl is , the easier for her to get a better job.
However, doctor Chen warned people who place too great expectations on surgery by saying that "It is not possible to change the face completely through cosmetic surgery, which only plays a role of 'adding flowers to the brocade'."
The job market is exceedingly tight for new graduates, and manyare looking for an edge that will help them stand out in an interview. For some, cosmetic surgery is seen as the fastest routeto a better appearance, according to an earlier report. Enditem |
