Japanese jetliner makes emergency landing at Manila airport

    MANILA, July 24 (Xinhuanet) -- A Boeing 747 jetliner of Japan Airlines (JAL) made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila Sunday afternoon after smoke was seen coming out of the plane's engine, airport officials said.

    The Tokyo-bound JAL 742 plane turned back 15 minutes after takeoff from the airport after its pilot requested for an emergency landing, saying the plane's indicator showed fire under the plane's wing, according to airport officials.

    The plane took off at 02:43 p.m. local time (0643 GMT) and madea successful emergency landing at the airport at 03:15 p.m. (0715 GMT).

    The 308 passengers and 20 crew members were ordered to disembark while airport mechanics started a check-up on the plane. Enditem
