BAGHDAD, July 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Insurgents are likely to intensify attacks on Sunday against security forces in Baghdad, an Iraqi security source said.

"About 10,000 terrorists and numerous booby-trapped vehicles have entered Baghdad through unpaved roads from Ramadi," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, quoted the commander of the 1st Iraqi Army Division as saying.

"These terrorists will attack Iraqi army units and the anti-terrorism forces of the Interior Ministry in Baghdad and in Madain south of the capital," the source said.

The source said the attacks were probably to "start Sunday night in Madain and then move to Baghdad through the southern districts of Doura and Amriyah."

The source said some of the terrorists had already been in Amriyah district in Baghdad.

The goal of the attacks is to hamper the drafting of a new constitution and the following general elections, the source added.

Earlier in the day, unidentified gunmen assassinated chief of Baghdad's Kadhumiyah police station and an Iraqi policeman was killed and another wounded in a mortar attack. Enditem
