Iran criticizes US approach in anti-terrorist campaign
www.chinaview.cn 2005-07-23 23:24:17

TEHRAN, July 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Iran said on Saturday that the wrong approaches of the United States in countering terrorism have made the world insecure, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"Unfortunately, every day we observe explosions and killings in the world and this is due to the wrong and childish approaches of the United States and their persistence in their wrong policy infighting terrorism," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as saying.

Asefi strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq, Britain and Egypt, saying "we consider resorting to killing in order to achieve objectives as totally wrong."

The spokesman urged the United States to work with the international community and avoid "dual approaches" in the fight against terrorism.

"The US should revise its approach in the campaign against terrorism and avoid dual approaches. It should stretch its hands towards the international community for a collective campaign against terrorism," he said.

Asefi also urged the western countries to take care not to treat Muslims harshly due to these terror explosions because "these things have nothing to do with Muslims."

Egypt's Ambassador-designate to Baghdad Ihab el-Sharif was kidnapped and then reportedly murdered earlier this month. Diplomats of several other countries in Iraq have also become targets of kidnapping and attacking.

On July 7, four bomb blasts hit underground trains and a double-decker bus in central London during morning rush hour, killing more than 50.

On July 21, another chain of bombings including four blasts injured one and caused panic in the British capital city.

Early on Saturday, three bombs exploded in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing at least 88 people and injured over 200.  Enditem
