LONDON, July 22 (Xinhuanet) -- British police
released on Friday afternoon the images of the four men suspected of Thursday's
London bombings which had been caught by the close circuit television (CCTV)
located in underground stations.
Hailing the investigation as "fast-moving" and
"smooth", Andy Hayman from the anti-terrorist branch of the police force, said
at a delayed press briefing that the CCTV images of the four men in connection
with the four explosive devices in central London were crucial for the
detectives.
The police urged the public to stay calm and call 999
to reportany information about the men's whereabouts, or contact the
anti-terrorist hotline for information on their identities or movements.
Hayman, also assistant of the police commissioner,
cautioned the public against approaching the suspects themselves.
Ian Blair, chief of the Metropolitan Police, said the
situation now in London is "calm" and "under control", adding that all sections
of the police are doing things individually.
According to the police, an Asian-looking man who was
shot Friday morning had earlier been photoed by the close circuit television on
Thursday and was believed to be one of the four bombers related to Thursday's
incidents. Plain clothesmen followed him Friday morning to his home and then to
the underground station in the hope that he might be meeting with some
accomplices.
As the suspect was heading into a train in the
underground station, police believed the man who wore a bulky winter time coat
was attempting another bombing, and therefore shot him to prevent any
large-scale disaster from happening.
Hayman said the man was shot because he "refused" to cooperate with the police. Enditem
