SINGAPORE, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Some Singaporean and Chinese scholars, academicians, entrepreneurs and students met here Friday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of China's victory over the Japanese aggressors as well as the victory of World War II (WWII).

Speaking at a symposium held by the Chinese embassy in Singapore, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yun stressed that history, which provided enlightenment to people living today, can not be distorted, referring to a few Japanese politicians who continue toabsolve WWII war criminals from guilt.

Calling China's 14-year fight against Japanese aggressors an important part of the international anti-fascism efforts during WWII, the Ambassador said that Chinese people cherish and will continue to make contribution to world peace and prosperity.

A dozen of participants criticized Japan's militarist aggression upon China and Southeast Asian countries more than 60 years ago, which brought enormous harm to people in the region andurged Japanese leaders to treat history correctly.

They stressed that the Chinese people must remain united and enhance the country's economic strength so as to prevent the tragic history from repeating itself.    Enditem
