BAGHDAD, July 21 (Xinhuanet) -- A US sailor died Thursday of wounds sustained earlier this month in a bomb attack in western Iraq, the US military said.

The sailor assigned to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, was injured in a bombblast on July 15 during combat operations in Hit, some 160 km west of Baghdad, the military said in a brief statement.

The name of the sailor was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

About 1,770 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003, according to media tally.  Enditem
