Bungling diver swims into mouth of shark

    BEIJING, July 21-- 26-year-old French-Chinese man accidentally swam onto the tooth of a shark whilst scuba-diving in the aquarium at Shanghai Changfeng Park, reports Shanghai Evening News.

    Diving in the aquarium with many kinds of oceanic species including sharks is a very popular attraction offered by the park, however, it was the first time that such an accident had happened.

    The dangerous scene occurred when the French-Chinese man was trying to ascend to the water surface without the permission of the diving coach. Usually the coach will lead customers to ascend only when there is no shark passing by.

    The bump onto the tooth left the man with two small wounds to the right ear and the head. He was pulled out of the water immediately and sent to hospital.

    Fortunately, due to the water pressure, he was not bleeding in the aquarium, thus sharks did not attack him or other customers.

    Divorce officials in bid to save marriages

    Because of the simplified procedures of divorce, the number of divorces in Shanghai has been increasing rapidly since October 2003.

    A woman surnamed Xu who is in charge of divorce registration procedures in Pudong District has given advice to the separating couples and has saved the marriage of over 50 couples in the last year, reports Shanghai Evening News.

    Xu noted that simplified procedures made rash decisions easier to implement, subsequently a lot of couples felt remorseful after they had divorced.

    Xu and her colleagues patiently talked to each couple that came to register for divorce.

    Peeping Tom blinded by bathing neighbour

    Being spied on by her male neighbour while having a bath, Zhu Jinghui poked the man's left eye and blinded him in that eye, reports Shanghai Morning Post.

    Zhu is a migrant worker who has been working in Shanghai for 10 years. She has been renting the apartment for two years. A couple moved to the apartment next to her at the end of last year.

    The husband of the couple surnamed Li attempted to peer at Zhu while she was bathing on December 3, last year. Hearing the noise made by Li, Zhu rushed out and poked Li's eyes with a pair of scissors.

    Zhu then ran away, and the police arrested her on Tuesday.

    Future looks peachy for Chinese fruit in Thailand

    The renowned peaches from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province sell very well in Thailand's markets, reports Yangtze Evening News.

    After the zero-tariff treaty between Thailand and China came into effect, a large amount of peaches has been exported to the Thai market. One pound quality peach sells at about 48 yuan (US$5.80) and Thai customers immediately have a craze for this succulent fruit.

    Foolish thief attempts to sell jewels back to owner

    A thief stole some jewels from a shop and planned to sell to the owner of another jewellery shop. However, the owner of this shop also owned the shop from where the jewels were stolen, reports Qilu Evening News.

    The owner surnamed Wu has three shops in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and the thief had stolen 880 pieces of jewellery from one of his shops.

    Wu immediately recognized the jewels stolen by the secretive marks that he had made on them. Wu pretended to negotiate with the thief while asking his employees to call the police.

    The police arrested the thief on Monday.

    Stunners cause a stir on Huangshan Mountain

    The beautiful contestants of the Miss Universe Pageant Show came to Huangshan Mountain, one of the most famous tourist attractions in China, for a photo shoot on July 18, reports Huangshan Daily.

    The arrival of these beauties from all over the world not only attracted travellers, but local residents too as they eagerly sought to have their photo taken with these stunners.
