Suspect in attempted attack on Bush detained in Tbilisi

    MOSCOW, July 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Special forces of the Georgian Interior Ministry have detained a suspect who attempted on life of U.S. President George W. Bush on Freedom Square in Tbilisi on May 10, the Interfax news agency reported from Tbilisi on Wednesday.

    The man was detained in the village of Vashlisjvari. The shooting in the village has ended, the eight-floor residential building and adjacent territory are cordoned off,  and criminal experts are working in the area, said an Interfax correspondent atscene.

    The suspect is known as Vladimir Arutyunov, born in 1978, who has been living in the house with his mother since 1983, and he was wounded in the shootout, according to a spokesman for the Georgian Interior Ministry.

    On May 10, the suspect hurled a hand grenade to the Freedom Square in Tbilisi where visiting U.S. President George W. Bush was speaking.

    Georgian Interior Ministry Vano Merabishvili presented photographs of the man On June 18, the Itar-Tass news agency said.

    Earlier reports said that the operation hunting down the suspect started at about 9:30 p.m.Moscow time (1730 GMT) on Wednesday. A special forces serviceman was killed in the shootout, said Itar-Tass. Enditem
