URUMQI, July 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Carbon monoxide poisoning has killed three miners and injured three others at a coalmine run by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Tuesday.
Yang Zhencang, director in charge of work safety at the 12th farming division, said eight workers were sent to repair the underground rail of the mine on Tuesday afternoon.
Power supply suddenly came off at 5:00 p.m., which failed the ventilation system with the ensuing high density of carbon monoxide in the mine shaft.
The power supply was resumed two hours later. And six workers were poisoned by the gas, and three died on the way to hospital.
As of Wednesday afternoon, all the wounded miners were in safe condition.
Investigation into the cause of the accident is under way. Enditem |
