BRUSSELS, July 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Just four weeks before the new Iraqi Constitution is due to be completed, the European Commission announced on Monday that it would provide 20 million euros (about 24 million US dollars) to support the project.

"It's crucial that preparations for the new Constitution shouldbe transparent and inclusive, the EU package is designed to reach out to all communities," EU Commissioner for External Relations Ferrero-Waldner said in a statement.

The funds will be channeled via the United Nations, which is coordinating the international support for the Constitution.

According to a press release, total contribution from the European Union (EU) executive to the Iraqi reconstruction process amounts to more than half a billion euros (600 million dollars). Enditem
