Taiwan's Ma promises to promote exchanges with CPC

    BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Ma Ying-jeou, newly elected chairman of Taiwan's Kuomintang (KMT) party, promised on Sunday he would work to promote exchanges between the KMT and the Communist Party of China (CPC) for peace, prosperity and development across the Taiwan Straits.

    Ma made the remarks when he extended thanks to General Secretary Hu Jintao of the CPC Central Committee for his congratulations on his being elected KMT chairman, sources said Monday. Enditem
