ANKARA, July 16 (Xinhuanet) -- An explosion in a minibus killed four people and injured 14 others in Kusadasi town of Turkey's southwestern province of Aydin on Saturday, Semi-official Anatolia News Agency reported.

The blast took place around 10:30 a.m. (0730 GMT) as the vehicle travelled past a square in the town of Kusadasi on the way to a beach.

TV footage of the scene showed the top of the minibus had been blown off by the force of the blast.Kusadasi sub-governor Ali Baris was quoted as saying that the injured have taken to the local hospital.

A full investigation was launched regarding the explosion as the cause of the blast was not known yet, he added.

Kusadasi, some 70 km (45 miles) from the port city of Izmir,is popular with Turkish and foreign tourists.

Hospital sources said five Britons were badly hurt in the explosion. But the Foreign Office said in London that only two British nationals were seriously injured in the blast.

Following the blast, the authorities have tightened security in the region, calling on police to look out for suspicious packages in crowded public areas.

"There is a possibility of the explosives being in a package. We are also considering the possibility of a suicide bomber," local official told Anatolian. Enditem
