BEIJING, July 15 -- Mohe, China's "Arctic Village," will commence
construction of an airport in Sept., which will make Mohe a new hotspot of
ecological tourism.
Mohe County, located at the northern foot of Daxing'an Range in northeast
China and on the verge of Heilongjiang River, is a famous county lying at the
northmost border of China.
Mohe Village is at the latitude of 53 degrees north and always known as
China's "Arctic Village." Its magnificent landscape of mountains and water in
summer and lovely snow scenery in winter have always fascinated the world.
Moreover, the mystical astronomical phenomenon of aurora borealis is
drawing more and more Chinese and foreign tourists year after year.
Owing to its location deep inside the dense forest and by the river side,
in the past, the only access to Mohe was by sailing a boat on the river.
Nowadays, railway has become the major means of transportation that
connects Mohe with the outside.
However, it takes over 10 hours to get to the nearest traffic hub Jiagedaqi
and nearly 30 hours to Harbin. Inconvenience of traffic has seriously hindered
Mohe's development of tourism industry.
According to plan, the runway of Mohe Airport will be 2,100 meters long and
45 meters wide and its annual passenger volume is predicted to reach
122,000.
