BAGHDAD, July 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraqi police has foiled an attempt to blow up the Kuwaiti embassy in Baghdad, the US military said on Sunday.

The military said in a statement that the Iraqi policemen  found a rocket propelled grenade round and a number of missiles near the mission's southeast entrance on Saturday morning.

A group of sappers succeeded in defusing the missiles, which were directed towards the Kuwaiti embassy building, added the statement.

In recent time, al-Qaida group in Iraq had kidnapped and killed Egypt's chief envoy Ihab el-Sharif and launched armed attacks against vehicles of Pakistani, Bahraini and Russian diplomats in Iraq.

There have been mounting concerns over safety of diplomatic missions in Iraq following the incidents while the al-Qaida group has also threatened countries that recognize the Shiite-dominated Iraqi government.  Enditem
