RAMALLAH, July 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei threatened on Sunday to resign if chaos and security deterioration continued to prevail in the Palestinian territories.

Qurei threatened to quit if the surging chaos in the territories did not end, said well-informed officials.

In the meantime, Palestinian Legislative Council held a special session in the West Bank city of Ramallah to inquire Interior Minister Nasser Youssef of the current security situation in Gazaand the West Bank.

According to the Interior Ministry, 55 homicide cases were recorded in Gaza and the West Bank so far this year, and most ofthe killings were related to streets fighting and family feud.

But Samir Hleila, secretary general of the Palestinian cabinet, denied on Sunday there were disputes between Qurei and Youssef, saying the two were working in harmony.

The security situation has deteriorated lately across thePalestinian territories with frequent murders and random use of firearms.

Last month, Qurei threatened to halt the work of his cabinet if the security forces did not act immediately to stem chaos and restore order. Enditem
