Flyover in Malaysia collapses, injuring 10 workers
www.chinaview.cn 2005-07-10 15:27:28

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Ten Bangladeshi and Indonesian workers were injured when a flyover collapsed in Shah Alam, about 25 kilometers southwest of Kuala Lumpur, the Bernama news agency reported Sunday.

The accident happened at about 1:40 p.m. local time (0540 GMT) on the Meru expressway when eight segmental girders of a flyover under construction collapsed during installation.

The girders, forming a 10-meter stretch, fell down to the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) below, bringing down the workers with it and damaging a passing car on the NKVE.

Seven of the 10 workers were seriously injured, and all of them have been sent to hospital. The driver and a passenger of the damaged car escaped unhurt.

The accident has caused the closure of two toll plazas on the NKVE, the Ministry of Works was quoted as saying by Bernama. Enditem
