KHARTOUM, July 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir here Saturday vowed to lead the people to overcome the bitterness and wounds of the civil war which lasted for more than 20 years.
Addressing the sworn-in ceremony of the new presidency, al-Bashir said "it is important to remove our minds' mines before removing the landmines and replace them by forgiveness, love and social intimacy."
"While the country is actually approaching the transitional period, we renew our promise to work together under the new leadership to establish the wise governance which will abide by the constitution," he added.
The president said "we will work for enhancing the rule of law and an apparent administration of the national institutions as well as subjecting these institutions to accountability to reinforce values of honesty and to spread justice."
Al-Bashir, meanwhile, pledged that "we will work for ensuring an equal share of wealth in accordance with the provisions and principles of the southern Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement" toeliminate some hopeless mood among the southerners on the nationalunity.
He also told people of the western Darfur region that his government would exert utmost efforts to use the agreement which the government recently signed with the Darfur rebels, known as the declaration of principles, to realize peace and security in the region.
Al-Bashir was re-sworn-in as president of the national unity government at a regional and international presence earlier in theday, before he supervised the sworn-in procedure of John Garang and Ali Othman Taha as first and second vice presidents respectively.
The Sudanese government under President al-Bashir and Garang's southern rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) signed a peace deal on Jan. 9 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, putting a final seal on two decades of the civil war, also the longest one in Africa. Enditem |
