LONDON, July 9 (Xinhuanet) -- An internet statement said on Saturday al-Qaeda
was responsible for the deadly bomb attacks in London, the Sky TV reported.
"A group of mujahedeen from a division of the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades piled
blow after blow on the infidel capital, the British capital, leaving dead
and injured," said the Internet statement.
This was the second claim of responsibility after the Thursday attacks on
three underground cars and a double-decker bus which left over 50 people dead
and 700 more injured in the British capital.
The authenticity of the statement could not be immediately verified.
Shortly after the bombings, a statement from the "Secret Group of al-Qaeda's
Jihad in Europe" said it was behind the attacks, but the claim could
not be verified either.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Saturday in a BBC interview that
links to al-Qaeda were likely but it was not yet clear as who was behind the
devastating blasts.
It was "reasonably obvious that it comes from that type of quarter," said
the prime minister, adding that no exact organization had been identified as
responsible. Enditem |
