British police: 49 killed, 25 missing in London blasts

LONDON, July 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The latest figures released Saturday by British police authorities show that 49 people were killed in Thursday's explosions in London while 25 others remain missing.

Information that keeps running on London's TV programs shows that nearly 100 are still in hospital with 22 of them in critical condition.

Earlier reports said that the bombings resulted in 50 deaths.

The police also said that there were four explosions across central London on Thursday, not seven as police had initially believed. Three of the explosions struck the underground system, while another ripped through a double-decker bus in which at least 13 people were believed to have died.

A high-level emergency procedure was activated immediately after the blasts and all hospitals were full by mid-morning on Thursday.

The police, who has launched a massive manhunt for bombers in London and throughout the world, said the perpetrators were still "at large". Enditem
