Beijing July 9 -- London's gift to New York after the September 11 terrorist attacks was a bell now hanging in St. Paul's Chapel.
It was rung four times Friday to mourn those who died in each of the London bombings.
It was then tolled continually for one minute in memory of the victims.
Reverend Canon Anne Mallonee, a Vicar of the chapel says it's a way for New Yorkers to convey their condolences to the innocent people who died in the terrorist attacks.
"It makes sense, as we pray every day for peace, to acknowledge that the terrorist attack yesterday is yet another example of why we need to keep praying and to resist evil and hatred and violence with words of love and peace and hope, and that's what we're doing today."
Earlier on Friday, US President George. W.Bush and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a condolence book at the British consulate in New York, saying all New Yorkers' prayers are with their friends in Britain.
In Europe, hundreds of Italian citizens gathered on Friday in front of Rome's city hall to pay their respects to the victims of London attacks.
Rome's mayor, Walter Veltroni, called for political and religious support.
"You will see that even after the attack, people will continue to go to London from the whole world to become Londoners and make their dreams come true. This is what will happen in London just as in the cities of every continent. This is what will happen and what will continue to happen in Rome. ."
Italian officials say Italy will always stand side by side with Britain in the fight against terrorism.
