US embassy in London remains open after explosions

WASHINGTON, July 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The US State Department said on Friday that the US embassy in London remains open on Friday after the deadly blasts that killed at least 37 people and injured 700 on Thursday.

"What I can say is that our embassy in London today is open for business and operating on a normal schedule, and all our other embassies in the region are as well," State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said at a briefing.

"Obviously, when any kind of incident like this takes place, our embassies take a very close look at their individual security postures and take what actions they think are necessary under the circumstances," Casey said.

Only hours after the explosions in London, US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced Thursday to raise the terror alert level from yellow to orange, indicting high risk of terrorist attacks, for mass transit.

The alert will apply to regional and inter-city passenger rail, subways and metropolitan bus systems in the United States. Enditem
