MANILA, July 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Former President Corazon Aquino Friday joined the call for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Aquino, who still enjoyed the influential power in the country's political life, said at a press conference, that Arroyo should resign, and this is the first and best way to address the current political crisis.

"She should resign as soon as possible to facilitate the transition of the power to her successor," Aquino said.

However, the former president expressed her appreciation to allArroyo's administration, which has done for the nation during her office.

Earlier in the day, Financial Secretary Cesar Purisima led the other 9 cabinet members to resign as the response to President Arroyo's call made on Thursday night.

The cabinet members also demanded Arroyo's resignation, doubting her administration credibility.

Senate Franklin Drilon, on behalf of Liberal Party, also voicedtheir call for Arroyo's step-down to remove all political uncertainties.

However, the rest of cabinet members led by Eduardo Ermita and House Speaker Jose de Venecia still insist on standing by the president. Enditem
