GLENEAGLES, BRITAIN, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- French President Jacques Chirac condemned terrorist attacks in London on Thursday, saying the blast would strengthen solidarity of the international community.

Chirac, who is attending the ongoing G8 (Group of Eight) summit at Gleneagles in Scotland, told reporters that the tragic events in London was unforgivable and expressed his grief and condolence to casualties.

"We stand with the Britain this time," the French president told a press conference at the opening day of the two-day G8 summit.

Hours after the London blast, the leaders from the G8 and the five developing countries of China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico vowed to confront and defeat terrorism in their joint statement.

"The joint statement shows the solidarity of the 13 countries around the table today," said Chirac.

"We will continue to work and the attack has succeeded only in redoubling the resolve of G8 leaders and their guests," he added.

G8 is a group of most industrialized countries, consisting of the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States. Enditem
