UNITED NATIONS, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Group of Eight (G8) and the five developing countries meeting in Gleneagles, Scotland, on Thursday vehemently condemned the blasts earlier in central London which left at least 33 people dead and more than 185 injured.

"We condemn utterly these barbaric attacks. We send our profound condolences to the victims and their families," said a statement which is also issued here by the office of UN General-Secretary Kofi Annan, who is also attending the G8 summit in Gleneagles.

"All our countries have suffered from the impact of terrorism," said the statement issued in Gleneagle by the leaders from the Group of Eight countries -- Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States and the five developing countries -- Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa, which are invited to attend the summit of the G8.

"Those responsible have no respect for human life," the statement said.

"We are united in our resolve to confront and defeat this terrorism that is an attack, not on one nation, but on all nations and on civilized people everywhere," said the statement.

"Nor will we allow it to disrupt the work of this Summit. We will continue our deliberations in the interests of a better world," the statement said.

The leaders also pointed out that the perpetrators of the attacks are intent on destroying efforts of the world's leaders who are striving to combat world poverty and save and improve lives.

"The terrorists will not succeed," the statement declared. "Today's bombings will not weaken in any way our resolve to uphold the most deeply held principles of our societies and to defeat those who would impose their fanaticism and extremism on us."

"We shall prevail. They shall not," it concluded. Enditem
