GLENEAGLES, Scotland, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Leaders attending the Group of Eight summit here in Scotland Thursday pledged to "prevail" despite the terrorist bombing in London which killed two and injured at least 185.

    In a statement, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said, "Perpetrators of today's attacks will not succeed."

    "The bombing will not in any way limit our resolve to uphold the mostly eagerly held principles of our societies and to defeat those who impose that fanaticism and extremism on all of us," Blair said, adding "We shall prevail."

    After the statement, the leaders who are striving here to work on poverty and improve human lives had a group photo call to "reinforce" the determination coming from the Gleneagles.

    Blair left the Group of Eight summit Thursday by helicopter tobe briefed on the attacks in London, but the G8 summit will continue.

    Britain's Home Secretary Charles Clarke confirmed that there were four explosions in central London on Thursday.

    Speaking at the House of Commons, Clarke said three were on subway trains and the fourth was on a bus.

    "We do not know who or what organizations are responsible for these terrible criminal acts," the home secretary said.

    Heads of states from Britain, the United States, France, Italy,Germany, Canada, Russia and Japan, the world's wealthiest countries are gathering for a two-day summit to resolve the issue of poverty in Africa and climate change. Enditem
