Indonesian police arrest 2 suspects in Australian embassy bombing

JAKARTA, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian police said Thursdayit has arrested two men implicated with the bombing in front of the Australian embassy compound here on Sept. 9, 2004, in which nine people were killed.

The two men were among 17 people arrested in separate raids in Jakarta and Central Java over the last two weeks, police spokesman Arianto Boediharjo told reporters at the police headquarters here.

He said the two have helped top terrorist Noordin Moh Top, a Malaysian national who police believe to have masterminded the attack along with compatriot Azahari Husin, find shelters when fleeing justice.

Police have earlier named 11 of the 17 detainees suspected in the act of terror. Four other men were released Wednesday due to the lack of evidence, said Arianto.

Charges for the 13 suspects in custody varied from harboring fugitives to providing explosives for last year's attack, he said.Enditem
