BEIJING, July 7 -- A senior Hamas official says the group has lost faith in Palestinian National Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Mahmoud al-Zahar told reporters in Gaza Wednesday Hamas would not give up its weapons and was liable to continue bombarding Israel with mortars and rockets after Israel's disengagement from the region.
Zahar said the PNA should bear responsibility for ignoring Hamas and other factions. He even hinted that the armed group might use force against the PNA to prevent it from running Gaza alone after Israel's withdrawal.
He added Hamas would agree to sit on a committee comprised of representatives of all the Palestinian factions rather than joining a unity government proposed by the PNA.
