GLENEAGLES, July 6 (Xinhuanet) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair said here Wednesday that China and India may be invited to join future Group of Eight (G8) annual summits.

    "If you go around the table at the last three or four G8s, China and India have been present. I can't really imagine that they're not going to be present next year," Blair told reporters as leaders from the world's richest countries arrived for the summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, the Bloomberg press reported.

    Being aware of possible opposition, Blair said: "you get into this difficult thing, as we find with the UN Security Council, when you try to change formal composition. It's a matter for people to look at in yeas to come."

    In Blair's view, it is essential to include the world's emerging economies like China, India, as well as the United States in any agreement on climate change at the summit in the next two days. Britain will push for a consensus on tackling global warming after the Kyoto Protocol limiting carbon-dioxide emissions runs out in 2012. Enditem
